We often need to extend HDMI sources as the maximum distance for HDMI Cables is 20 meters.
Using a combined extender splitter enables a single HDMI input to be sent to HDMI displays, digital signage and projectors.
Where you need two inputs you can use a HDMI switch box to manually switch sources or rely on auto switching. Some manual switch boxes provide a remote control. Auto switching relies on only one source being active at a time.
A HDMI switch splitter or HDMI matrix can be used for advanced source selection and output routing.
Entry level extenders and spitters are rarely plug and play. They also have 1 input & 1 output.
Most DVD players are not designed to work over long HDMI cables direct to ceiling mounted projectors.
Video walls use dedicated mapping units to split the HDMI source into sections.
Questions and Answers on Audio Visual topics
Listed below are some of the questions we are asked, and their answers:
What is audio visual equipment?
Audio Visual equipment is designed to either record or playback media with both a visual and audio element.
In the home environment your flat screen television is one example, in the workplace the projector and speakers in the board meeting room form an audio visual system
What is an AV system?
Any system which includes separate pieces of equipment to display an electronic image and an associated audio sound track could be considered an AV system.
Some examples of were you may find an AV System are:
- Home Movie theatres
- Meeting rooms
- School Halls
- Conference venues
They can be basic with a single projector and simple audio playback
Conference AV Systems may require integration with live video feeds and monitor screens
Theatres using them for backdrop projection may require multiple synchronised projectors
Churches may have requirements for multiple main screens, repeater screens in the Crèche and want to record live video, sermon presentations and live audio into a media file for use on their websites
What is audio visual technician?
They are the person who is required to set-up, operate, and maintain audio visual equipment. Some may be volunteers with community projects or churches, others will be professional technicians employed to carry out this work full time.
A professional audio visual technician should be skilled in the following disciplines:
- Projection equipment and monitor screens
- Sound engineering
- HDMI distribution
- IT and Presentation software
What is a HDMI audio extractor?
Audio Visual technicians are often asked to play videos or presentations from laptops that include audio. On older laptops we used to be able to take audio from the headphone socket.
Unfortunately, modern laptops that use HDMI outputs and windows software automatically route all audio through the HDMI port and you cannot use the headphone socket at the same time.
This is why you need a HDMI audio extractor, what they do is provide you with a sound output while passing the original HDMI signal to other equipment.
Some of the Audio Extractors also provide full surround sound digital audio outputs
What is the best HDMI audio extractor?
We have tried a few different audio extractors and a lot of them cause a trouble if you then need to send the HDMI on to a projector over an extender.
Our recommended HDMI Audio extractor is the HDMI 4K Audio Extractor De-Embedder
If you need to split the signal and extract the audio we suggest the HDMI splitter with audio extraction built in
What is an autocue system?
Autocue's allow a person on stage to have a visual monitor that displays their lines or lyrics during a performance. This can be driven using a free autocue app, Presentation Software, or professional autocue software.
We know of churches using software to display lyrics and sermon notes where they use Autocue displays for the people on stage so they are not looking backwards to the projector screen behind them
Professional speakers can also use them and the design of autocue from APT looks just like a stage wedge monitor so no-one knows your stage talent is using an Autocue
